About
Welcome to Nutrition Basics! Thank you for visiting my site. I try my best to offer easy to follow strategies to help people improve their healthy and to help them make sense of the sometimes confusing and mostly contradictory information that comes out of the diet and health industry.
My Goal
My goal is to teach people a basic understanding of nutrition so they are much less inclined to jump on the latest and greatest idea coming from the diet industry. By educating people, they can identify marketing fluff when they see it and hopefully (please, oh please) stop dieting and obsessing about food.
Please take a moment to browse through the site and, if you feel so inclined, make visiting a regular habit by subscribing to the RSS feed in the upper right hand corner of this blog. You can also follow me on twitter.
Who I Am
I am a Certified Nutritionist, graduating in 2005 with a master in nutrition degree from Bastyr University, in private practice in Seattle, Washington. I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Washington and worked for a year counseling peers with eating disorders. During my year working at the Bastyr Clinic for Natural Health I came to realize that if patients wanted the best chance at long term success with their weight and health goals, they would need to receive a basic education on nutrition, a simple plan to follow and a structure of support that offered daily contact and accountability.
From this experience I developed a unique approach to helping my patients create new healthier habits. I teach people three simple ‘Healthy Eating Principles’ that they can follow for a lifetime.
In my private practice, I help people discover the best approach to managing their digestive condition, overcoming years of emotional eating and learning what they can eat when dealing with a food sensitivity. Weight loss is addressed by incorporating easy to follow principles and through day to day structure and accountability.
I founded Nutrition Northwest Co in 2005, the premier provider of sound nutrition and wellness advice in the Northwest with offices in Seattle and Kirkland. www.NutritionNorthwest.com
I recently did a video for MSN Health and Kashi.com, showcased on the main page of this site.
Nutrition Northwest Co. also partners with internet communities: HarvestEating.com, Wellness.com, HastyChef.com, LifeBalanceProgram.com and Qvisory.org, offering blog and article submission, similar to articles posted here. I consult with companies to offer recipe analysis as well as ingredient analysis, setting values and parameters for exchange values and nutrient exclusions (i.e. gluten, lactose, dairy, etc).
In 2010 I created an innovative online health and wellness program: http://www.Nutrition-Basics.com/index.php/online-program/
